Today. Today was a good day. And frankly, lately I didn’t have any reasons to say this, but today really was good!
After a long day of school I went with my best friend and took a walk down our dyke and went to the mall. And obviously I just had to stop at the bookshop there and decided to treat myself with a book that I wanted for so long that I can’t even remember when, The Fault in Our Stars.
After buying it I stayed with my friend and had a chat over a drink. Once we decided that it was time to leave, I went home and there was a package waiting for me.
Yes. Once again, I’ve been the honor to get a package from a dear friend. The amazing surprise consisted of two amazing books that I’ve also wanted for a long time, those being The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and The Selection.
I just want to thank Carol again for sending me these two books. I’m not sure that she actually knows how much this means to me! I appreciate this gesture so much that I cannot find words to express myself. So, thank you, for again making me feel so thankful and happy!
I wish I didn’t bore you with this post, but honestly, this was a very exciting day for me and I am so happy that this day turned out so well! How was your day? Did you enjoy it?
Until next time, probably with a book review,
Lexi xxxxxxxxxx! 🙂
P.S. Thank you again, Carol <3!
Here are the summaries of these titles if any of you are interested [got them directly from Amazon].
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten.
Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has won the annual Hunger Games with fellow district tribute Peeta Mellark. But it was a victory won by defiance of the Capitol and their harsh rules. Katniss and Peeta should be happy. After all, they have just won for themselves and their families a life of safety and plenty. But there are rumors of rebellion among the subjects, and Katniss and Peeta, to their horror, are the faces of that rebellion. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge.
The Selection by Kiera Cass
For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in a palace and compete for the heart of gorgeous Prince Maxon.
But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn’t want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.
Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she’s made for herself—and realizes that the life she’s always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.
As you may know from my previous post, my dad had to leave for Italy this morning. So get my surprise when I saw presents under the tree last night! My parents insisted that I shall open them so my dad can see my reaction. A thing that I did not expect because I ordered the presents myself, so I thought “how can I be surprised…”?
Well, I was wrong…[how many times have I said this on my blog?].
This year I did not ask for anything but books, so as expected, I got the three books I ordered last month: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling, City of Bones by Cassandra Clare and Etiquette&Espionage by Gail Carriger. And soon, I understood why they had to see my reaction! I GOT THE DA VINCI CODE BY DAN BROWN!!!!
I just HAVE to talk about each book because they are all sooooo beautiful. And they all have matte covers and the lettering in “3D” – *sighs* I LOVE matte covers and “3D” titles. LOL!
Firstly, I ordered the newest Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone edition because I loved the covers. I didn’t look much into it so I had no idea that they had illustrations at the beginning of each chapter!!! I am so glad that I got this edition! It is soooo beautiful and I cannot wait to finally read it.
Then, I opened City of Bones. Of course, I knew what to expect from it, and I am so glad I wasn’t let down by it! The cover is very nicely designed, and honestly I did not expect it to be this big, but hey, I am not complaining!!!
Etiquette&Espionage, which I still think is underrated..Is the first steampunk book I own, and I cannot wait to devour it! It looks very nice, and I love the cover’s design, even my mom wants to read it after I finish it.
And last but NOT least, The Da Vinci Code. It is sooooo good looking….well, it is nothing as artistic as the others, but it is really nice looking to me! It is pretty thick…and I guess I expected it to be long, but not this long! I started reading it, and I have to say that I am loving it this far! I am at page 110 and have a lot until I finish it , but I am working on it :D. Also I cannot wait to finish the book and see the movie, because this may be the first movie adaptation that I wanted to watch only after I have read the book.
Honestly, after I opened all of them I did not know which one I should start reading but I decided on The Da Vinci Code because it was on my to be read list for so long! I am not sure what I’ll be reading after this one, I think I will have to draw a ticket from a bowl or something, lol!
This year’s Christmas presents managed to make a small dent in to my book wish list, and provided me with great joy and happiness for a long time.
I am so thankful for everything that I got!! My parents are the best!!! ❤ [Just FYI, I did not write this in order to brag or show off! I am just very happy and want to share my happiness and excitement.]
Until next time, stay safe,
Lexi xxxxxxxxx! 🙂
P.S. The posts I publish this time of the year are not looked over beforehand by anybody because I don’t want to put anyone to work during the Holidays, so I am sorry for my crappy way of writing.
P.P.S. I wish I took pictures of the books when they were all wrapped up nicely.
P.P.P.S. I feel like I’ve repeated myself a thousand times by now…
I honestly did not want to have a reason to write about this topic this year… The point is that years like this are really annoying to me because I always look forward for Christmas and I get let down almost every time.
My dad plays the clarinet at the state Orchestra from my home town, and that is amazing! He got to see almost the whole world by doing what he loves most..but this came with drawbacks as well.
We are always happy when he gets called to go in a tour somewhere, but is really hard for me and my mom when he has to leave for the Holidays or birthdays… And of course, he isn’t crazy about the idea either.
This year he got called to go in Italy for twelve days or so. He has to leave tomorrow morning and he comes back on the fourth of January. So again, I will spend my Christmas with my mom and my dad will be away on a bus to another town.
Even if it sounds that I am complaining for my own comfort, I am not! I am actually complaining because he is the one that has to be away from home and spend his Holidays in a foreign place.
Every time this happens, my parents tell me that the money that he will earn will be for our good use and what not…but I always feel so sad the moment he walks out the door. And just hearing his sad voice on the phone makes the whole in my heart even bigger.
Sometimes…I just wish his work would involve being closer to home or I wish I got to go in that tour for him, so he could enjoy his Holidays at home where he feels the warmth and love of the people who are here for him.
Jesus, this sounds really sappy, but I am so angry, because I was expecting him to stay at home this year.
Well, this was all for today…Sorry for the sad topic -it is sad for me at least- I just had to let it out!
Until next time,
