New Year’s Resolutions!

Firstly, I would like to wish you all a veeeerrryyyy Happy New Year!! May all your wishes and goals accomplish, and have a marvelous year with your family and friends.

I never actually wrote down New Year’s  Resolutions, but I decided to do so this year. They are not many, or special, but are the things that I wish to achieve in the new year that is coming.

1.Get better grades.

2.I would like to lose weight. In January preferably to go to a nutritionist to set a diet.

3.Read more books. Reading books is never bad.

4.Get my eyes checked. They hurt lately- may need glasses- yikes.

5.Spend more time with my family.

6.Appreciate the simple things.

7.Save some money.

8.Care less about what others think. [I think I will break this one]

9.Finish the “To Be Watched List”.

10.Work hard and get the Cambridge exam.

11.Be more creative. Draw more; do more DIY; etc.

12.Post as much as I can on the blog.

These are all that I can think of, and I really hope that these are appropriate for new year’s resolutions :D.

Stay safe,

Lexi xxxxxx!

Merry Christmas!!! :)

merry-christmas4I did not have anything in mind for a post today, but regardless, I just wanted to say a few words.

I wish you all are enjoying yourselves in this beautiful day of Christmas. Have a great time with your loved ones and appreciate the time you get to spend them.

Christmas is the time of the year when all your family gets together and has a nice time talking, sharing gifts and so on and so on. Well, I wish you are doing all that and just relax because you deserve it after a year of work!

Watch a movie, play a game, tell a story. Do anything that would make your family happy! At least that is what I am doing.

So, I wish you a Merry Christmas to EVERYONE that is celebrating and not only! Wherever you are in the world, enjoy your presents and the love of your family and friends! Wish you ALL the best 🙂 !

DIY: Christmas hats for everyone :D

After decorating my room, I realized that my minion looked a bit sad and unfestive, so I decided to pimp him up a bit.

I found this tutorial on how to make Christmas hats for people, but I shrunk it to fit my minion. Well…let’s not talk about the fact that it looks nothing like it was supposed to! It is just cute and fun to do. It took me to make the hat and the “scarf” about 30 minutes, with my “expert” skills.

Now, I’ve got my little good looking minion very jolly and festive. His “scarf” I am no sure how I did it, because I honestly have no idea how I even managed to make the hat…it just came out how it did… Also, I am really sad that I cannot put his scarf a little bit lower because there is his moth…but it looks good like this as well :)). Kinda like a mustache, but oh well..

Anyway, if you are a crocheting lover, and actually know how to make stuff like this, don’t make fun of me, cause I am sure this will be my first and last time trying it!

Hope you have a great Christmas Eve with your family and friends, and may these Holidays bring you joy and cheer for the whole year :). (Apperently I can rhime, lol)

I wish you a Merry Christmas!!

Much love,

Lexi xxxxxxx!

Christmas Tree Ornaments

This year I decorated the tree quite late in comparison to the previous years. I know it looks a bit bare, because we got a bigger tree this year, but didn’t get more decorations.

We opted for an artificial tree for several reasons. Firstly,  we don’t like the idea of using a tree for two weeks and then throwing it in the trash. I really think that is just stupid, and a waste of a good tree-no offense. A lot of people say that a natural Christmas tree is the reason of the Holiday and what not…well we don’t need to cut a tree to feel the Holidays near our hearts. So that was that…1511184_102026dadsada18760091679_1463320831_n

Also, I hate garland, so I didn’t put any on the tree, so that may be another reason for why it looks so bare. Oh, and my installation broke just before I took the pictures, so it is even more bare.

I don’t know why, but I have favourites among my tree decorations. So I decided to share them, LOL.

This one I bought last year on a whim. I wasn’t set on going to buy stuff for Christmas, but I saw it and I thought it was really pretty. It is an angel who is holding a dove.1461271_10202618769531915_617341445_nThis second one, has a longer back story. I bought it when I was 10 and went in a school trip in the capital of Austria, Vienna. I bought both my mom and my dad something. Since it was around the Holidays, I bought my mom this candy handbag decoration, and my dad a small Mozart plate.

1487294_10202618776452088_1666102453_nThis metal ornament was brought home by dad last year when he came home from a tour in Brussels- Belgium.

1513857_10202618776012077_1134143373_nI really like this one because it is hand painted.

And this one I like because I made it myself. LOL. It was a simple matte red ornament, but it got scratched, and I decided to scratch it further and  make some kind of pattern on it. So I got a scratching tool and I made a tree. [can’t see it really well, but you get the idea.]1533793_10202618777932125_1196251465_n

So those were my favorites, I guess they just have more meaning than the others, and well…some are just pretty :D. Sorry for the poor quality pictures!

Hope you liked my pretty bare tree. Next year I’m planning on getting more decorations so it won’t look as empty.

Lots of love,

Lexi xxxxxxxx!

Christmas Presents

As you may know from my previous post, my dad had to leave for Italy this morning. So get my surprise when I saw presents under the tree last night! My parents insisted that I shall open them so my dad can see my reaction. A thing that I did not expect because I ordered the presents myself, so I thought “how can I be surprised…”?

Well, I was wrong…[how many times have I said this on my blog?].

This year I did not ask for anything but books, so as expected, I got the three books I ordered last month: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling,  City of Bones by Cassandra Clare and Etiquette&Espionage by Gail Carriger. And soon, I understood why they had to see my reaction! I GOT THE DA VINCI CODE BY DAN BROWN!!!!

My parents knew for how long I wanted The Da Vinci Code, and they found it and bought it for me. Oh my God, I was and am so thankful and happy!1461792_10202618769331910_1601332517_n

I just HAVE to talk about each book because they are all sooooo beautiful. And they all have matte covers and the lettering in “3D” – *sighs* I LOVE matte covers and “3D” titles. LOL!

Firstly, I ordered the newest Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone edition because I loved the covers. I didn’t look much into it so I had no idea that they had illustrations at the beginning of each chapter!!! I am so glad that I got this edition! It is soooo beautiful and I cannot wait to finally read it.

Then, I opened City of Bones. Of course, I knew what to expect from it, and I am so glad I wasn’t let down by it! The cover is very nicely designed, and honestly I did not expect it to be this big, but hey, I am not complaining!!!1497817_10202618766011827_1086061273_n

Etiquette&Espionage, which I still think is underrated..Is the first steampunk book I own, and I cannot wait to devour it! It looks very nice, and I love the cover’s design, even my mom wants to read it after I finish it.

And last but NOT least, The Da Vinci Code. It is sooooo good looking….well, it is nothing as artistic as the others, but it is really nice looking to me! It is pretty thick…and I guess I expected it to be long, but not this long! I started reading it, and I have to say that I am loving it this far! I am at page 110 and have a lot until I finish it , but I am working on it :D. Also I cannot wait to finish the book and see the movie, because this may be the first movie adaptation that I wanted to watch only after I have read the book.1525611_10202618765691819_1976398574_n

Honestly, after I opened all of them I did not know which one I should start reading but I decided on The Da Vinci Code because it was on my to be read list for so long! I am not sure what I’ll be reading after this one, I think I will have to draw a ticket from a bowl or something, lol!

This year’s Christmas presents managed to make a small dent in to my book wish list, and provided me with great joy and happiness for a long time.

I am so thankful for everything that I got!! My parents are the best!!! ❤  [Just FYI, I did not write this in order to brag or show off! I am just very happy and want to share my happiness and excitement.]

Until next time, stay safe,

Lexi xxxxxxxxx! 🙂

P.S. The posts I publish this time of the year are not looked over beforehand by anybody because I don’t want to put anyone to work during the Holidays, so I am sorry for my crappy way of writing.

P.P.S. I wish I took pictures of the books when they were all wrapped up nicely.

P.P.P.S. I feel like I’ve repeated myself a thousand times by now…

Sad times…

I honestly did not want to have a reason to write about this topic this year… The point is that years like this are really annoying to me because I always look forward for Christmas and I get let down almost every time.

My dad plays the clarinet at the state Orchestra from my home town, and that is amazing! He got to see almost the whole world by doing what he loves most..but this came with drawbacks as well.

We are always happy when he gets called to go in a tour somewhere, but is really hard for me and my mom when he has to leave for the Holidays or birthdays… And of course, he isn’t crazy about the idea either.

This year he got called to go in Italy for twelve days or so. He has to leave tomorrow morning and he comes back on the fourth of January. So again, I will spend my Christmas with my mom and my dad will be away on a bus to another town.

Even if it sounds that I am complaining for my own comfort, I am not! I am actually complaining because he is the one that has to be away from home and spend his Holidays in a foreign place.

Every time this happens, my parents tell me that the money that he will earn will be for our good use and what not…but I always feel so sad the moment he walks out the door. And just hearing his sad voice on the phone makes the whole in my heart even bigger.

Sometimes…I just wish his work would involve being closer to home or I wish I got to go in that tour for him, so he could enjoy his Holidays at home where he feels the warmth and love of the people who are here for him.

Jesus, this sounds really sappy, but I am so angry, because I was expecting him to stay at home this year.

Well, this was all for today…Sorry for the sad topic -it is sad for me at least- I just had to let it out!

Until next time,

Lexi xxxx!

Book review: “Quintessentially Q”

1174543_1406739366210223_1318539032_nQuintessentially Q written by Pepper Winters is the sequel of Tears of Tess and is part of the Monsters in the Dark series. In this sequel,we get to take a peek into Tess’s mind as well as Q’s.

Tess and Q couldn’t be more happy together. They finally could let themselves go in their throes of passion. How long will their happiness last? When will Q finally appreciate Tess the way she deserves and realize what he is about to lose?

When I read Tears of Tess this summer, I thought it would be the darkest book I will ever read, but I was wrong. Quintessentially Q is so much darker, and has so much more angst that I had to take breaks from reading from time to time.

Tess loves Q with all her heart, and tries to make him love her back. But while she thinks she is in a paradise with Q, someone is plotting to hurt them both. The struggles and battles Tess goes through are most impressive and my heart went out to her every time she was in pain, mental or physical.

Q had a huuuugee character development in my opinion. He still shows his defining power and wealth. Whilst I had little affection towards Q in the first book, in the second, I grew to love and respect him. *sigh* I wish he were real. Honestly, I felt worse for Q than I did for Tess. Tess represents a strong personality, but I think that Q hides in his darkness because he is not as strong as she it. And I honestly think that Q would be easier to bring down. So, I had my heart clenching every time Q would suffer or go through something bad…it really was a development from him and me as well.

Also, the way Pepper Winters describes everything to the smallest detail, makes my heart leap with joy. I love how she concentrates on diverse actions and emotions, but manages to describe them all so well.

The book covers are marvelous and definitely have two thumbs up from me. They are elegant and very sophisticated, making you want to read it after you have only seen the cover.

When I first read the blurb for Tears of Tess, I was very apprehensive about it because I did not like extra-angsty books. With this series, I’ve come to love it and I am super happy that I got to start reading the genre after reading ToT and QQ.For me, this book is definitely a masterpiece. I am so happy to have had the possibility of reading it!

After finishing QQ I thought that that was it,that their story ended and I was preparing myself to let the characters go,like i always do, but I screamed bloody murder when I found out that the series Monsters in the Dark  will continue with a third book. And I honestly can not wait to have my heart hurting for their suffering again and to read once again the peacefulness of its ending…well I hope it will be peaceful *evil grin*.

The series Monsters in the Dark that contains two volumes until now: Tears of Tess and Quintessentially Q and will continue with Twisted Together that is coming out in the early 2014. Everyone that loves very dark and twisted stories, that have tortured characters and make your heart beat out of your chest while reading them, has to have this series in their collection. I thoroughly recommend this series to anyone that loves these kinds of things and not only.

DIY: Easy origami stars

1480676_10202565812768029_1320079685_nFor the Christmas dance at school I had to do some decorations and I decided to show you how to make the ones I enjoyed doing the most. These are the small origami stars. We decided to make a garland from them, and now I thought it would be nice to share how to make them. I learnt to make these several years ago, so I don’t have an exact source from where I learnt how to make them, but I am sure you can find plenty of videos on YouTube.

You will need:

Origami paper [not necessary, but use it if you have it]

Regular piece of paper [any kind, colored, blank, newspaper. Anything BUT cardboard-might be too hard to fold]

1. Get your blank piece of paper and draw lines to make your strips of paper. I let 1.5cm distance between each strip. For more strips at once, just layer some papers and cut along the lines you first drew.960251_10202565816328118_565719383_n

2. Make the first shape and then fold it down over. Pull until you get the second shape.

3.After you got that shape, flip it over and tuck in that little tail at the bottom.

4. Now, flip it as it was before and just start wrapping the longer piece of paper on the sides of the shape you had. Just do that over and over until you finish your strip.

5. Now that you have left that little length of paper, tuck it in like you did at the beginning.

6. After you have this star  shape, you can start pinching the corners gently until your 2D star becomes 3D.

And voila, now you have your own little star. You can just hang them around, or make a garland, or even place them around your room. They are fairly easy to unfold, so you can keep messages hidden in them.

Hope you liked this DIY post, and I certainly hope you understood what I explained.

Until next time, stay safe,

Movie review “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”

Plot summary:

A year after winning the 74th Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen and her partner, Peeta Mellark must go on what is known as the Victor’s Tour wherein they visit all the districts. But before leaving, Katniss is visited by President Snow who fears that Katniss defied him a year ago during the games when she chose to die with Peta. With both Katniss and Peeta declared the winners, it is fueling a possible uprising. He tells Katniss that while on tour she better try to make sure that she puts out the flames or else everyone she cares about will be in danger. But unfortunately she fails to do that. So Snow decides to enact what is known as the Quarter Quell, the right to make a change to the Hunger Games, which he is allowed to do every 25 years. He decides to hold an edition of the Hunger Games wherein previous winners will compete again. Their mentor Haymitch thinks their best chance to survive is form an alliance with some of the others. They decide to align themselves with Finnick and his partner, Mags. But Snow is secretly hoping Katniss will be killed.

My review:

I am trying to not give out anything big that happens in the movie, meaning that I am trying to proof my review from any spoilers.

I am just going to say that I thought it was better than the first movie, and I wasn’t expecting this at all. I wish I have gone to see it sooner, and also I wish I would have gotten to write this review sooner. I saw this movie on the 30th of November, so I am reaaaallyy late with my review and I bet that by now you can see the movie online, but oh well…

I honestly don’t have much to say about it other than that I loved it, and it left me speechless. I went to see it with a friend that didn’t see the first part, but she liked it a lot, and promised to watch the first movie as well.

I have not read the books, but I am planning to in the near future because the movie was really enticing, just like the first one actually. I sat on the edge of my seat the whole time, and I wanted to cry when it ended. I wish it would have lasted longer…At least I am happy to know that Mockingjay Part 1 is being filmed as I write this post.

The characters were veeery nicely interpreted by Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci and Donald Sutherland and many others. These were the ones that held the action alive-obviously- and that were the most charismatic in my opinion.

Also I hated not knowing who will Katniss end up with! I really need to read the books, because between Peeta and Gale I cannot choose, and I’d like to know how the author planned their fates before I see Mockingjay at the cinema.

The cinematography was absolutely beautiful, it sometimes still amazes me what can be done on a computer. The CGI was very nicely done and the details were amazing. Also, the costumes of the characters were very beautiful and complex, and I cannot wait to read the book to make my own image of them and see if they are how I imagined them.

And do not get me started about the plot. It was absolutely flawless, and very well thought. I bet in the books it is so much better, but this will have to do for now. I really liked the flow of it, it had a really nice continuity, and everything made sense put together. 😀

I really liked “Hunger Games” but “Catching Fire” definitely is better. I hardly can wait until Mockingjay Part 1 so I can see if it beats “Catching Fire” or not.

Definitely go and see this movie if it still is at your local cinema, and if not, watch it online or buy the DVD and watch it at home with your family and friends.
